Old Blue gets a new head of hair.

Old Blue came home today, they got the new vinyl roof on in one day, and it looks awesome. Am I going to drive it to school tomorrow? Do bears use jackrabbits as toilet paper? Of course I'm going to drive it to work tomorrow. There would have to be a foot of snow on the ground when I got up to keep me from driving it to work. But the other good news is that they told me they could restore my dash to original for under $200. Then all I'll need is to redo the interior and the car will be as good as new......

Update on Old Blue

Monday it goes back into the shop. I spent countless hours on the internet looking for a new signal switch for my car. Wouldn''t have been hard if it didn't have the tilt steering wheel. Anyway, Red Rock (the guys that work on my car) found the right part. So, I'm gonna have signals AND a tilting steering wheel. I would have settled for no tilting, except that every time you bumped the signal lever it messed with the switch, and eventually broke it. Bummer. This way I get it closer to original anyways. I also talked to the vinyl roof guys, they said that they should be able to put on the new top next week. I discovered another thing about my car, seems there was an early version and a late model year version. I'm not sure which one mine is, but I had to measure the car from the top of the windshield to the bottom of the back window so they could make the right roof for it. I'll have to get the details from the guy when I bring it down there. So, by next weekend it should be in lookin' great, running great and even able to pass inspection. Yeah!

Why "Old Blue"?

The 4 door's got a name. "Old Blue". Why? Well, it is old, and it is blue. And my roommate started calling it "Big Blue", which just didn't ring right, and then it dawned on my as to why. One of my dad’s colleagues when I was in high school had an old ’66 (maybe '65 or '67) Ford Galaxie Wagon. They took it camping, down long dirt roads in the Southern Utah deserts, and it pretty much took everything they gave it. It, too, was blue, and they all called it "Old Blue". Just seemed to fit. I still haven't come up with anything for the convertible or the Subaru, nothing has struck me as perfect yet.

Return of Old Blue

Just got the 4 door back from the shop today. Fourteen-hundred dollars later and I have a new steering box, new rear axle seals, bearings and grease, tune-up, transmission serviced, vacuume lines repaired and a few other miscellaneous things. The car runs like a dream. I can tell the rear end wasn't doing very well, it literally glides compared to before. And the power steering is once again power. Now as soon as the vinyl comes in I'll have a brand new vinly roof....

Welcome

I've always loved big old Fords, ever since 1977 when I bought a '69 2 door hardtop LTD off a friend. Cost me $250, was gold, ran great and had a dent from the front bumper to the back on the passenger side. We stuffed me and 13 UofU Math professors in it one time. Even at 6'-1" I could sleep on the front seat while waiting for friends to get out of school. So, 9 years ago when I decided I needed a convertible, I bought the 1970 LTD I still have today. Last October I flew out to L.A. with my two brothers to pick up the 4 door hardtop. Drove it home to Salt Lake without a hitch. And it even ticked off my older brother by getting better gas mileage than his Durango. Cruising through the desert at 85 MPH, like floating on air, I decided I needed to get a full set. I'm currently on the prowl for a wagon, 2 door hardtop and 4 door cop car type. Of course I have to save up the money, but the beauty of the LTD is that I can probably get the whole corral for the price of one mint condition Mustang. (Not that I don't love Mustangs, but let's face it they cost a lot more than LTD's these days).
.
So anyways, I was at the Utah car show the other day with my brothers and my little brothers wife and kids, and my older brother and I went in search of the great-great grandson of my LTD. All we could find was one measley Grand Marquis. Once we acheived that goal, he started talking about how I should start an LTD club online. This is it, except I decided to widen the scope. Include any and all of the not-so-popular cars of the 60's and 70's. Feel free to post, send pictures of your pride and joy. Just remember, it can't be one of the cars that "everyone" is clamoring for.....
